Review: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Series?: None, but has companion novels
Pages: 372 (hardcover)
Published: December 2, 2010 by Dutton
Source: Borrowed
Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris - until she meets Etienne St. Clair: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home.

As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near - misses end with the French kiss Anna - and readers - have long awaited? ...

Review
I get it. I finally get why everyone was always gushing over Anna and recommending it to everyone. This book was so full of win and I adored it *HUGS* I seriously loved everything about it, everything! I loved the setting, the premise, the characters, the ending, all of it!

From page one, I had the feeling that I would love Anna and the French Kiss. Anna is entering her last year of high school and her famous novelist dad decides to send her to Paris for a distinguish education. I got a clear feeling of Anna's mix of emotions over the decision; yes it's Paris, she should be excited! but it's also her last year of high school, how devastating to be leaving everything behind! Anna was an awesome main character, she's funny, a little awkward, a movie buff, and she just really wants to fit in Paris. Luckily she meets a great group of people, including The Etienne St. Clair. These people were awesome, I want them for my friends!

Now Etienne. Or St. Clair as he's affectionately known as *giggle*. This boy had me from his first appearance. He's super cute, has amazing hair, and is an American with an English accent living in Paris..got that? Yeah, Anna was confused too haha. Etienne, to me, seemed like one of those rare people who are just so loved by everyone, they're super nice and funny and just amazing. The friendship Anna forms with the group, and Etienne especially, was one that warmed my heart and made me 'aww' so much. So. Freaking. Adorable.

The sexual tension in this book was so palpable it could've made me blush. I had my breath held for a lot of the book waiting until something cracked or someone slipped. There were some nail biting moments and I was so afraid a line would be crossed the characters wouldn't be able to go back from. By the end I might as well have shot off fireworks and showered myself with sparkles my heart was bursting with joy and that warm feeling you get when you see baby animals, you know:

Cue the AWW

I don't know what else to say about this book without going all fangirl and 'like omg I luv it!' /gushswoongush

Bottom Line
OMG GUYS READ THIS. If you're in a reading slump, need a feel good read, some smushy romance, a new guy to crush over, a laugh, or any other reason/situation under the sun, read it!

  6. There was/is a lot of hype surrounding this novel, which is not only completely justified but doesn't nearly do it justice either.

Anna is the best kind of protagonist because she's so easy to relate to. She's a smart girl with a quick wit, that often leaves other people speechless. She also talks to herself constantly, which makes for some pretty hilarious moments when her thoughts come spilling out. I laughed out loud several times with the different things Anna would say and do.
